The semi-automatic rifle known as the AR-15 goes by the name ArmaLite Rifle. The company that created this rifle is called ArmaLite. Per trigger press, one round can be fired. The M16 design is the foundation of the AR-15. In the 1950s, the M16 military rifle was created. It has a wide range of aftermarket support, making customization simple. It can chamber a variety of calibres .5.56 NATO, .223 Remington, .300 Blackout, and 6.5 Grendel.
Is the AR-15 a machine gun?
The AR-15 is considered a semi-automatic rifle. That means it only fires one round per trigger pull. In comparison, a machine gun fires continuously as long as the trigger is held down or the mag is empty. It means that a machine gun is a fully automatic weapon, so an AR-15 and a machine gun are not the same. But still, there is a lot of confusion because of the appearance of the AR-15. The AR-15 is associated with the M16; that's also a reason for confusion. Some people call the AR-15 an assault rifle, which is also confusing.
AR-15 Customization
AR-15 Customization Options include various accessories such as scopes, grips, and stocks that allow users to personalize their firearm to their liking. Additionally, the AR-15 can be modified with different barrel lengths and calibres, making it a versatile weapon platform for various shooting purposes.
Scoping an AR-15
The scope is an optical device, and it acts like a magnifier. It can be attached to the gun, magnify the target, and enhance the fire's accuracy. It offers crosshairs or reticles and adjusts for windage and elevation. Scoping an AR-15 means you will enhance the range of accurate shooting of an AR-15 rifle, but remember that it may add some weight or bulk to the rifle. Also, the scope of the AR-15 needs some additional maintenance.
AR-15 Gas Blocks
A gas block determines the flow of gas from the barrel to the bolt carrier group and how much gas is used to cycle the rifle's action. Commonly, two types of gas blocks are used in the AR-15 to control the gas flow. One is direct impingement, which consists of a tube. Using this tube, it directs the gas from the barrel to the bolt carrier group directly. At the same time, the second one is the piston gas block. It consists of a rod. This rod pushes the gas from the barrel to a piston, ultimately moving the bolt carrier group indirectly.

An AR-15's performance is highly affected by the type of gas block. Each gas block has its pros and cons. For example, if you are using a direct impingement gas block, it is lightweight and straightforward to use, but it will make your AR-15 rifle dirty and increase the temperature. On the other hand, a piston gas block is comparatively complex and heavier. But the piston gas block keeps the AR-15 clean and cool.
AR-15 Calibre Size
The calibre of a gun determines the size of the bullet that a rifle can fire. With the AR-15, you can customize the gun and use different calibres depending on your needs. Commonly, the AR-15 caliber size is .233 Remington or 5.56 NATO. Both these calibres are 5.56 mm in diameter. But you can also use some other calibres, such as .300 Blackout, 6.5 Grendel, or .458 SOCOM, which are 7.62 mm, 6.5 mm, and 11.63 mm in diameter, respectively.
AR-15 Recoil
How much recoil a gun will produce depends on the calibre size of the gun. Similarly, the power and accuracy of the rifle are also affected by the calibre size. So if you need more power, you have to use a larger calibre, but it will also produce more recoil, making your gun relatively less accurate and reducing the firing range. On the other hand, a smaller calibre size is best for high accuracy and range, but while using this, you have to compromise on power.
AR-15 Heat Shield
A heat shield, which is a metal or polymer cover, is the best part of the AR-15 gun. It can protect your hand from the heat while you are shooting and increase the comfort and safety of the experience. Generally, the heat is produced by the barrel and gas system of the rifle. The heat shield wraps around the barrel or a free-floating handguard that attaches to the receiver and does not touch the barrel.
It also provides a mounting platform for the AR-15's aftermarket support. Using this platform, you can attach accessories like lights, sights, grips, etc. It makes the rifle more comfortable for rapid fire and elevates its appearance and performance.
Extended magazine release for the AR-15
It's another aftermarket support part. An extended magazine release replaces the original one, making gun reloading faster and more convenient. As it's more prominent in size, comparatively, it's easy to reach. It prevents sudden magazine drops, so in that way, it prevents the AR-15 from malfunctioning as well as the loss of ammunition, and it improves the gun's performance and ergonomics.
If you use the AR-15 for tactical shooting, an extended magazine is the best thing to consider. But remember that there may be some legal restrictions on using extended magazine releases as it enhances the risk of illegal magazine change, and you may have to face legal consequences.
